Hilton McRae left Edinburgh University with an Honors Law degree in 1972. In the theatre his work includes The Trial and Agamemnon, both adapted and directed by Steven Berkoff, seasons with 7:84 and the Glasgow Citizens theatre and three seasons with The Royal Shakespeare Company where the parts he played included Orlando in As You Like It, Gobbo in The Merchant of Venice, Heggie in The Innocent, McCulloch in The Churchill Play and Rimbaud in Total Eclipse; he has also played Hamlet for the New Shakespeare Company and Macbeth for Dundee Repertory In the West End his work includes Piaf, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which he also did on Broadway. On television Hilton’s work includes The Justice Game, Max Headroom. Poppyland and Dreams of Leaving. He played Sam in the feature film The French Lieutenant’s Woman, and other film work includes Greystoke, Return of the Jedi, and King of the Wind.
